About THOT

We are often asked, "What does THOT mean?"

In ancient Egyptian mythology, THOTH was the "god of wisdom, inventor of writing, patron of scribes, and the divine mediator" according to Marianne Dixon in Encyclopedia Mythica. He was usually known as the messenger of the gods. THOTH was represented as an ibis or as a man with the head of an ibis, holding a writing palette and pen. The symbol for THOTH was often depicted similar to this:

When we created our business dedicated to research and writing, we loved the mythology of THOTH, but didn't want to name our business "Thoth." We decided eliminate the last "h," making the business name sound "thoughtful." With the name (THOT Information Services) and the image of the THOTH ibis in mind, artist and photographer Sue Ellen Stone, who also happens to be our niece, created the THOT logo for us by creating a T from the ibis and adding the IS. Thus was born the logo she created for THOT Information Services, Inc.

THOT Information Services, Inc. is owned and operated by husband and wife partners, William P. Graham and Susan D. Lanier-Graham.
